Autoharpo Marx’s History of Zithers

UPDATE 7/12: Sadly, this undersubscribed class has been cancelled. However, I will be in the Common Ground on the Hill Tradition Weeks evening concert series on Thursday, July 15, 8 PM, streaming on their YouTube channel and archived for later viewing. The concert also features songwriter Rod MacDonald, filmmaker Mike Faulkner, hammered dulcimer virtuosa Mary Lynn Michal, storyteller Sheila Arnold, and harpist Jo Morrison.

Maryland’s Folklife Center Common Ground on the Hill has been “celebrating the common ground of the traditional arts since 1994.” Their program includes a wealth of Traditions Weeks classes, all online this year.

My friend, fellow fretless zither enthusiast and traditional bluesman par excellence  Andy Cohen is offering Autoharpo Marx’s History of Zithers during the July 12-16 Traditions Week, exploring the history of the autoharp, a cousin to the fretless zithers I play. He has invited me to present instruments from my collection in one class period. I’ll bring my Marxophone, tremoloa, ukelin, violin-guitar, Apollo harp, dolceola, Harp-O-Chord, and more, much more…

Might you like to join us? $100 gets you five sessions of the class, Monday through Friday, 2:30-3:45 PM. Check out the rest of the Traditions Weeks schedule as well!
